OVERVIEW
ViewSonic is looking to entice those end users who do not want to spend over $2,000 on a 4K home theater-style projector. The unit is very quiet, includes tons of picture adjustments, and offers horizontal /vertical optical lens shift. At a Manufactures Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $1,816.99, ViewSonic appears to have accomplished its task.
While most home theater projectors are connected to an external sound system, the X100-4K includes built-in 20W Harman/Kardon speakers along with smart features, so the projector could be used as a stand-alone home entertainment solution.
This projector is intended for ceiling mounting or tabletop use. The chassis dimensions are 16.4” W x 18.2” H x 6.3” D, which meant I was not throwing this projector in my backpack and taking it on the road with me. Speaking of the chassis, it is a very sleek-looking unit; the silver front contrasts the black chassis beautifully.
Rated at 2900 LED Lumens.
While either a lamp or laser light sources are utilized in most home theater projectors, the X100-4K is an RGBB LED projector. ViewSonic rates its brightness at 2900 LED lumens. ViewSonic’s LED lumens rating is not the same as many other projectors measured in ANSI lumens. Therefore, LED lumens versus ANSI lumens could create confusion over brightness output. Our measurement yielded about 1200 ANSI lumens. That said, I still found the projector would be bright enough for most family rooms, living rooms, and media rooms with decent ambient light control. The LED light source is rated to last up to 30,000 hours.
RGBB LED Light Source.
The ViewSonic X100-4k can project clear images from 40-inches up to 200-inches. I projected on to my 110-inch Screen Innovations (SI) Solo Pro 2 Unity AT screen for this review.
The X100-4K is a slick-looking projector.
The ViewSonic X100-4K uses a single 0.047-inch Texas Instruments (TI) DLP chipset with an arrangement of extremely reflective aluminum micro-mirrors known as the digital micro-mirror device (DMD) to deliver 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) displayed resolution.
The DLP chip with XPR (eXpanded Pixel Resolution) technology inside the X100-4K uses pixel-shifting technology to achieve 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels). That is 4K resolution on-screen with 8.3 million distinct pixels.
