The Viewsonic PJD5555w projector sits at the top of Viewsonic's 5000 series of affordable projectors. It is a portable, wide screen WXGA (1280 X 800) DLP projector that is aimed at the presenter that's looking for high brightness at low cost.
With 3300 lumens and a street price of $450, the PJD5555w fits the bill. Add the long lamp life to the equation (5000, 6000 or 8000 hours depending on lamp mode) and you've got a very low cost of ownership. Of course, with such a low cost projector, you also get a minimum of connections and no network control or projection capability. However, the PJD5555w does have a few interesting features, including a 3D Blu-ray compatible HDMI 1.4 jack and enhanced sound output via its SoundExpert technology.
The PJD5555w is at the top of a family of similarly styled projectors. These include the PJD5155 and PJD5255, which are similar to the 5555w, but are SVGA (800 X 600) and XGA (1024 X 768) resolutions respectively. There is also the PJD5153 model, which is SVGA like the 5155, but doesn't have an HDMI input. There is also a 6000 series of similar projectors that offer networking ability as well.
Thanks to its compact size and light weight (4.63 lbs.), the PJD5555w is extremely portable, allowing it to be easily moved from room to room. A projector this compact and light weight should come with a carrying bag, but in this price range, it's certainly not expected. Overall, the Viewsonic PJD5555w offers a solid combination of high brightness, projected low maintenance costs, and a great warranty. For the school or business on a budget that needs high brightness but doesn't require extreme color accuracy, the PJD5555w will fit the bill. In addition, its $450 street price will bring a smile to the face of the purchasing agent.
