It was big projector news back in July 2013, when Hitachi announced they shifted their projector business to Maxell, a part of the Hitachi conglomerate. Since then, Maxell was spun off as the Maxell Group. No matter, the projectors, continued to sell under the Hitachi name, per their agreement. Essentially for these past years Hitachi Branded projectors were built by Maxell, in the same facilities that were previously Hitachi.
Now as of April 1, 2019, that is about to change. The Maxell Group recently announced their new line of projectors (which are now shipping), and going forward, will be sold under the Maxell name and no longer under the Hitachi name. Maxell announced that their new line of projectors will offer the same performance and reliability that everyone is used to. Historically, Hitachi (now Maxell) has had solid performance in the education sector, in particular.
We are in the process of reviewing our first projector under the Maxell label: the Maxell MP-WU5503, which is a projector very suitable for education (and business) applications. So, are they as good as the Hitachi projectors? We will find out soon enough.
Stay tuned..
