Samsung has introduced two new models in its ultra-short-throw projector lineup: the Premiere 9 (LSU9D) and the Premiere 7 (LSU7D). These projectors are designed to bring the home cinema experience to everyday living spaces, offering 4K resolution, advanced laser technology, and several smart features that cater to movie enthusiasts and gamers. The new Samsung Premiere 9 and Premiere 7 projectors include notable improvements over the earlier models, the Premiere LSP9T and Premiere LSP7T, which were introduced in 2021.
Like the previous model, the Premiere 9 utilizes a triple laser light source, which supports a broader color gamut, covering 154% of the DCI-P3 color space, which should translate to more vibrant, colorful visuals.
The Premiere 9 offers a maximum brightness of 3,450 ISO lumens, making it suitable even in well-lit rooms. The Premiere 9 (LPU9D) offers significantly more brightness than the 2,800 ANSI lumens offered by the 2021 Premiere LSP9T. The Premiere 9 model also supports HDR10+ and can project up to 130 inches in 4K resolution.
The Premiere 7 also delivers 4K resolution but is designed for screens up to 120 inches. The Premiere 7’s blue laser phosphor light source can deliver up to 2,500 ISO lumens, an upgrade from the LSP7T's 2,200 ANSI lumens. Higher brightness levels help Premiere 9 and Premiere 7 deliver a vibrant, colorful image regardless of the viewing environment.
Additionally, both models come with AI-powered picture enhancements like 4K AI Upscaling, which improves content quality to near-4K resolution, and Vision Booster, which adjusts color and contrast based on ambient lighting.
Audio quality is another key feature of these projectors. The Premiere 9 includes built-in 40W 2.2.2 channel up-firing speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Compared to the 2021 Premiere LSP9T’s 40W 4.2 channel system, the new setup is designed to create a more immersive sound experience with up-firing speakers that enhance the surround sound effect.
The Premiere 7 is equipped with 30W 2.2-channel speakers, which is an improvement over the 30W 2.0-channel system in the LSP7T. These speaker systems improve the audio capability, ensuring that both new models deliver a more cinematic audio experience without the need for external sound systems.
Both new projectors run on Samsung's Tizen OS, providing access to popular streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video. The Premiere 9 and Premiere 7 both come with the Samsung Gaming Hub, a new feature that was not available in the 2021 models. This hub provides access to over 3,000 premium titles from partners like Xbox, which can be played without a console.
The Premiere 9 and Premiere 7 also include Custom Ambient features, which allow users to personalize their space with a variety of projection options, such as custom drawings, personal photos, and interactive widgets. This is a step up from the more basic ambient mode options available in the 2021 versions.
The Premiere models have a minimalist design, featuring rounded edges and a fabric finish designed by Danish company Kvadrat. This design is intended to help the projectors blend into different home environments. The ultra-short throw capabilities also make setup straightforward, requiring minimal installation effort.
The Premiere 9 ($5999 SRP) and Premiere 7 ($2999 SRP) are now available through Samsung’s website and select retailers. Samsung is also running an introductory promotion from August 26th through September 15. Purchase a Premiere 9 or Premiere 7 and get a free Freestyle 2nd Gen, a $600 value.
The Premiere 9 (LPU9D) and the Premiere 7 (LPU7D) should offer an impressive range of features that make them a good option for someone looking to upgrade their home entertainment setup with immersive, high-quality visuals and sound.
