Panasonic PT-VMZ50 Projector Review – Performance: Performance: Brightness, Audible Noise

BRIGHTNESS

The PT-VMZ50 is listed as a 5,000 lumens projector. Just how close did the PT-VMZ50 come to hitting its target 5,000 lumens? I took 3-4 readings about 15-20% out from the center of the lens which usually gives a pretty good approximation of ANSI lumens. At full wide angle I measured the PT-VMZ50 in its brightest picture mode which is DYNAMIC with LIGHT POWER set to “Normal”.

Panasonic PT-VMZ50 Brightness: 5,698 Lumens

At wide zoom, High-Bright mode.

The PT-VMZ50 measured 5,698 lumens which is above Panasonic brightness claim. For the seven available modes, I also measured them at mid-zoom since it is common for a projector to be zoomed in a bit when installed.

Audible Noise

The PT-VMZ50 produces 27db in QUIET Mode and 37db in NORMAL (high Power Mode) This noise level is in line with most 5000 Lumens business projectors and it is quiet enough that it would not be distracting in a class or meeting room. While the 5000 lumen NEC P525UL laser projector that I reviewed this year was noticeably quieter, the NEC was also larger and heavier.
