Mitsubishi HC7000 Projector: Bottom Line

Mitsubishi has built a good one. No, a great one. The HC7000 is their top of the line, 3LCD 1080p projector, and from a picture quality standpoint, performs as you would expect and demand for a projector in this price range. Since the HC7000 (link to projector specifications) is sold only through local dealers, you can expect to pay more, than for comparable projectors sold online, but that all works out, if you are planning to hire a local dealer. I've always believed that local dealers need to make a certain profit per project, and if you buy the projector elsewhere, and give it to the local dealer to install, you are likely to find that you save less than hoped for. (Of course that's just my two cents, but my old company did local sales as well as online.)

So, back to the HC7000. The HC7000's picture, after calibration, really is a great one. Rich blacks, natural colors, sharp image, quiet operation, all come together for a great viewing experience.

As mentioned elsewhere, for most folks, the only area of performance where the HC7000 takes a hit, is in brightness. That's OK though, as long as you keep brightness in mind in your projector selection process, along with your room conditions, what you watch, and screen size (and surface). If you don't run out of lumens, this is going to be wonderful projector for you, for a long time.

There are still some serious new competitors coming out that might be a better choice for you, but, all considered, you don't get to play with them like I do, picking apart the finer points of each. Sure, maybe if you saw a JVC RS2 - with its best in class black levels, side by side with the HC7000, you might want more, but, for all but the most hard core enthusiasts, the Mitsubishi HC7000 should provide great pleasure and no complaints.

But for brightness, and my large 128" diagonal screen, I could definitely live happily with the HC7000. Also, brightness issues notwithstanding (and I don't use an anamorphic lens), I definitely have a preference for the HC7000, relative to the less expensive Panasonic PT-AE3000. We'll see shortly, how the other new models compare, but keep in mind, the projectors in this class are all, well, really, really good!
