The LG HU710PW is one of two newly announced CineBeam projectors. We were excited to get our hands on the HU710PW ($2,499.99 SRP) because it is the first LG projector to utilize a hybrid light source system. This new LG system uses an LED light source supported by laser technology to provide 2,000 ANSI lumens of brightness combined with a 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. This hybrid light source is designed to deliver enhanced light source brightness and markedly improved color range. I will be taking a more detailed look at this new hybrid light source system in the Notable Features section of the review.
The HU710PW features LG's Web OS 6.0 operating system with access to the full range of major streaming services, offering the option of almost endless entertainment.
Regardless of your level of knowledge, the HU710PW offers users a simple out-of-the-box setup with an incredible array of preset picture modes. The HU710PW also provides an impressive range of manual adjustments for the videophile, from allowing the user to dial in the projector's picture to how you want it to look for the environment you are using it in.
All the adjustment and entertainment features aside, the most compelling thing about the HU710PW, and the most important, is the projector's picture quality. Without giving too much away upfront, I can tell you that, with a few exceptions, this projector delivers.

OVERVIEW
The LG HU710PW is a feature-rich 4K 0.47-inch Digital Light Processing (DLP) Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) projector powered by LG's hybrid laser and Light Emitting Diode (LED) light engine. The HU710PW is a smart projector with a suggested retail price of $2,499.99. This projector offers a great deal of performance and numerous advanced features for its price. The LG HU710PW has a rated brightness of 2,000 lumens, and its hybrid LED laser-light source is rated to last up to 20,000 hours in Standard mode and 30,000 hours in the projector's Eco mode.
DLP Performance
HU710PW is a 1920 x 1080x4 pixel-shifting projector with a Texas Instruments DLP (0.47″ DMD) chip. DLP Xpanded Pixel Resolution (XPR) technology leverages the immense speed of the DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) to process pixels faster than the eye can see, resulting in a displayed 4K (3840 x 2160) pixel image. While the newest 0.47″ DMD chips only have about 2.1 million mirrors, they can deliver a perceived resolution of 8.3 million pixels. This system works so well that it would be difficult for viewers to see a difference in resolution from a native 4K Ultra high Definition (UHD) (8.3 megapixels) imager.
When comparing projectors to flat-panel TVs, projectors often fall short in certain areas, such as traditional projector lamps dimming over time and needing to be changed after a few thousand hours. Replacing lamps adds to the cost of operation and can be inconvenient to the owner. Because the HU710PW uses a hybrid LED laser-light source, replacing lamps is no longer an issue when considering a projector over a traditional TV. This type of illumination can provide years of maintenance-free operation.
LG's New Hybrid LED Laser-Light Engine
The HU710PW's Hybrid LED laser-light engine increases the projector's color gamut capabilities while removing the need for a spinning phosphor wheel found on many DLP projectors. Removing the color wheel significantly reduces the rainbow effect common on many DLP projectors.
The HU710PW features High Dynamic Range (HDR) Dynamic Tone Mapping when viewing your HDR10 content. Auto Dynamic Tone Mapping delivers HDR content with higher contrast and more vivid colors than Standard Dynamic Range (SDR). This feature automatically adjusts both the dark and bright levels frame by frame to ensure the best picture and optimize the projector's HDR performance. In addition to HDR, the projector supports Hybrid Log gamma (HLG), which is a backward-compatible HDR standard and begins with an SDR signal that any TV can use.
The HU710PW also features HDR Gaming Interest Group (HGIG) technology designed to help improve HDR console games from PlayStation and Xbox.
The projector comes with three HDMI inputs. One input is rated at HDMI 2.1, and the other two are HDMI 2.0. The HDMI 2.1 output features include Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), and bandwidth up to 24 Gbps.
