Today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada Hisense announced the latest edition to their home cinema Laser TV lineup. Hisense has been producing ultra-short-throw premium home projection products since 2014 when they introduced their first Laser TV. The L5 series continues the Hisense industry-leading expansion into the Laser TV category and the Hisense trend of producing groundbreaking, technologically cutting-edge Laser TV products for the home theater marketplace.
Hisense continues to bring the cinema experience home with a new version of the L5G Laser TV. With both 100” and 120” sizes, the L5G provides an incredibly bright, 4K image that is three to four times bigger than a 55-inch TV. Featuring Dolby Atmos® sound, Filmmaker Mode, and Smart Android TV, the L5G brings the cinema home in an all-in-one package.
Recently we had the opportunity to review the previous version of Hisense L9G Laser Cinema and the unit did not disappoint. Getting a review sample of the L5G onto my product test bench is really going to be a priority for me.
Let me give you a little more detail about this newest Hisense Laser TV. To start with let’s talk a little bit about Laser TV
The L5G features 4K resolution, HDR10 support, and 2700 Lumens of brightness offering incredible color and detail and unmatched picture clarity and focus uniformity.
Video streaming platforms offer a growing amount of 4K movies, even in HDR just not at 60fps or higher. The reality is that 24fps is the standard and despite some filmmakers like Peter Jackson and Ang Lee shooting content at frame rates higher than 24fps.
Hisense has made setting up your L5G projection system by pairing the Laser TV unit with an ambient light rejecting screen, available in 100” and 120” sizes, to ensure a fantastic viewing experience under almost any lighting condition. Now you have no need to have a dedicated home theater room to enjoy the cinema experience.
The L5G’s blue laser light source provides true-to-life color with incredible dynamic range. This Laser Engine exceeds the Rec.709 standard for UHD 4K and lasts long enough to enjoy more than 25,000 hours of content. The L5G’s blue laser light source produces incredibly sharp and precise images with stunning detail, vivid color and is rated to provide 2,700 ANSI lumens of brightness providing a viewing experience that should feel like you are watching at your own personal movie theater.
The Hisense L5G runs the Android TV platform as a fully integrated projector OS. Android TV offers more than 5,000 apps and games that can easily be opened using Google Voice for limitless and convenient entertainment.
The L5G comes with the Google Assistant allowing voice control for several 3rd party items like a set-top box, lights, door locks, curtains, etc. Also, while the L9G uses an Android TV operating system for enhanced flexibility, it is compatible with Amazon Alexa.
New upgrades on the L5G like ultra-high-speed HDMI deliver enhanced spatial audio and supports eARC for uncompressed audio signal pass thru to a home theater system. Game Mode with ALLM features high-speed HDMI ports, with a refresh rate of 60Hz, that automatically detects when a gaming console is the active input source and adjusts the picture and signal processing settings accordingly to optimize game performance.
Gamers will be also able to enjoy the auto low latency mode feature, which provides a smooth picture and lag-free gaming. Viewers who enjoy sports and action-packed movies with lots of fast-moving images will appreciate the fluid and precise viewing experience the L5G provides.
For a truly immersive theater experience, you need big sound to go with the big picture. The L5G features a 30W Dolby Atmos sound system that provides a spatial sound that seems to flow all around you.
If you want the bigger sound that comes with an external audio system, the L5G’s eARC allows full signal pass-thru to your external surround sound system. Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) allows for pass-thru of high-bitrate audio and supports multichannel audio, including Dolby Atmos. If you do not use eARC, the only other option would be to connect the optical audio output.
The L5G also includes an incredibly fast signal response time which delivers image motion that stays true to creative intent. Fast-moving images, be it an action-packed movie or fast-paced game, feel even more fluid as a result.
If you are looking for a more convenient alternative to a traditional home theater system, like a flat panel television and an external sound system, the L5G is a great alternative. This projector can simply be placed just 11 inches from the wall and get a massive image allowing you to immerse yourself in your favorite games, movies, and TV shows and all like never before.
Laser TV is shifting the way images are displayed, allowing for a more cinematic and immersive experience. The L5G 4K Smart Laser TV is available for purchase through Amazon for $4,499 (100”) and $4,999 (120”).
