Epson PowerLite 109W Business/Education Projector Review – Special Features: Wireless Capabilities, Warranty, Brighter Futures Education Program

Wireless Capabilities

Epson Wireless LAN Module

The Epson PowerLite 109W has wireless capabilities! Using Epson’s optional Wireless Module, you can wireless project from both PC and Mac computers. The projector also features Two-Way Content Sharing, which allows teachers to push content from the projector to wirelessly connected devices and control which device screens to display. Students can then make their notes and send their work back to the projector.

Thanks to Epson’s iProjection App, the projector can connect up to 50 wireless devices. It can handle both iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as Chromebooks, and the already mentioned PC and Mac computers. There’s a trend in schools where students are being assigned Chromebooks to use at school, so the compatibility with this device is quite awesome. While the projector can connect up to 50 devices, you display 4 of those devices’ screens at a time, so you won’t be seeing every screen of every device simultaneously.

Warranty

As usual, Epson provides a great warranty for yet another projector. The Epson PowerLite 109W has a two years parts and labor warranty that covers any manufacturer defects. Also included in this warranty is 90 days on the lamp. What’s not included?

  • Excessive continual use
  • Consumables such as filters
  • Installation or removal
  • Cosmetic damage caused by handling or normal wear and tear during usage
  • Damage caused by failure to properly maintain the projector
  • Damage caused by interaction with non-Epson products such as add-in cards or cables
  • Any problem resulting from misuse, abuse, improper installation, neglect, improper shipping, disasters such as fire, flood, and lightning, improper electrical current, software problems, exposure to chemical smoke, or excessive humidity
  • Any problem resulting from service other than Epson or an Epson Authorized Seller

In addition to the two year limited warranty and 90 days on the lamp, Epson provides peace of mind with their ExtraCare Road Service. This program gets a replacement projector shipped out to you immediately so that you can get back up and running without having to wait days or weeks for your unit to get repaired.

Brighter Futures Education Program

Epson’s Brighter Futures Education Program gives awesome discounts to educators. When building out your projector fleet, you’ll be glad of an education plan like Epson, which really helps cut down on costs of not only the lamps and accessories, but the price of the projector itself. Their education pricing brings the Epson PowerLite 109W down from $749 to $612, which really raises the projector’s value proposition.

Their ceiling mount kit goes from being $129.99 to a mere $72 per unit. The Wireless LAN Module does not get discounted in this program, so that will still be $109. Bummer! Still, that price is hardly something to balk at, when you consider you can get the projector, the ceiling mount, and the wireless module for just a tad above the original MSRP.

That does it for the special features of the Epson PowerLite 109W! Next up is our tour of the hardware, followed by our discussion of picture quality and performance. See you on the next page!
