The Epson MegaPlex MG-50 is a new multimedia product that is quite unique in that it is a Iphone, IPod and or IPad base station for music, which is what truly makes this projector from Epson quite interesting. With a MSRP of $699 the Epson MegaPlex MG-50 is a very versatile entertainment center for your Mac portable device. The MG-50 can play movies from your IPod, IPad, and IPhone via the docking station in the front. There is a full on screen menu system for navigating content.
This projector isn’t just for projecting and listening to your portable devices content. It is fully capable of being a presentation projector for business and home theater. With inputs for component video, HDMI and your typical VGA input from a laptop, the Epson MegaPlex MG-50 pretty much can do anything.
The MG-50, although feature rich, has a native resolution of 540p (960x540) pixels so it is not has high resolution as some of the other home entertainment projectors on the market, but the quality of the picture is still nice enough to enjoy your favorite movies. The native aspect ratio is 16:9 which is in line with most home theater systems on the market.
Epson has put a fair amount of brightness into this unit as well. It features 2200 lumens of light output. Later in this review I will provide you more information about that when we talk about performance.
The MegaPlex MG-50 also has speakers. Two, ten watt, stereo speakers are located in the back and put out some pretty nice sound. I talk more about that in the performance section as well.
