Sanyo PLV-Z700 3LCD Home Theater Projector: Warranty

Summary, Pros, Cons

It's hard to beat a three year warranty, which is exactly what Sanyo is offering. In addition, Sanyo promises fast turn-around under warranty, no more than 3 days at their service facilities, and, according to them, more typically 24-48 hours.

Most of the competition offers two year warranties, and there are a couple of one year warranties (Panasonic PT-AE2000U, Optoma HD803, etc.)

While Sanyo does the fast turn-around, I personally still prefer an overnight replacement program, but those are rare (Epson has it, but with only a 2 year warranty).

One downside to Sanyo's warranty: Sanyo does not have a DOA policy. If your projector has a defect, Sanyo wants to get it in (they pay all freight) and fix the issue, rather than replace the model. This might drive some people crazy if it's a brand new unit, but the end result, should still be a properly fixed, fully functional projector. By comparison, a replacement program gets you a refurbished unit, typically with up to 100 hours (or more, depending on manufacturer) on the lamp.

One other point. In the past, "stuck pixels" have been a warranty issue. Most manufacturers (including Sanyo) do not consider something like a single "stuck" blue pixel to be a warranty problem. The good news, is that in the last year and a half, I've only seen one "stuck pixel" between all the 3LCD projectors I've reviewed, so it looks like manufacturer quality control has this in hand.
